Our suppliers — The Dovecote Barn

The people behind
our shelves.

We keep it local. Everything on these shelves is made, grown, brewed, baked, picked or painted by people we know by name, most of them from Barton-in-Fabis and the villages around it. Here is who they are.

  1. Market gardener holding a crate of freshly picked vegetables in a lush field
    Andy

    Fresh Veg

    Fresh vegetables

Andy grows our veg just up the road, picking through the seasons so the shelves are always stocked with what is properly in season. Carrots in the winter, greens in the spring, tomatoes in the summer. If it is on the shelf, it left his field recently.

  2. Beekeeper holding a frame of golden honeycomb beside wooden beehives in a wildflower meadow
    Luke

    Holden Honey

    Raw local honey

Luke keeps his hives on the edge of Barton-in-Fabis, and his bees work the meadows and hedgerows of the Trent valley. The result is raw, unfiltered honey that tastes of exactly where it comes from. Look for his honey on our farm shop shelves, and drizzled over the breakfast menu in the bistro.

  3. Bryn talking to guests at a tasting table in the Gasman Brews tasting room
    Bryn

    Gasman Brews

    Small-batch brewery

Bryn brews proper small-batch beers in Barton-in-Fabis, the kind you find on our bar and in our fridges. His brewery sits minutes from the barn, which means the beer does not travel far between tank and tap. Find his brews in the farm shop, and enjoy them in the bistro.

  4. Village bakery counter with handmade cakes, cookies and fresh bread on wooden boards
    Nicki

    Bexon Bakes

    Handmade bakes

Nicki bakes the cakes and treats that fill our counter, from traybakes to celebration sponges, all made properly by hand. If you have had a slice of cake with your coffee in the bistro, the chances are it came out of her kitchen.

  5. Craft workshop table with handmade woven baskets and textile homeware
    Deb

    Deb's Designs

    Handmade crafts

Deb makes handmade homeware and craft pieces, each one a one-off. Her work brings proper handmade character to our shelves, and makes the kind of gift you will not find anywhere else.

  6. Buckets of freshly cut dahlias and seasonal British flowers in the farm shop
    Li

    Barton Bloom

    Cut flowers

Li grows cut flowers a short walk from the barn, picking seasonal stems through the year. Her buckets of dahlias, sweet peas and foliage are behind the bunches you can grab with your shopping, and the posies on our bistro tables.

  7. Local artist painting at an easel in a studio with countryside landscapes
    Roy

    Roy

    Local artist

Roy paints the countryside we live and work in. His originals and prints hang on the walls of the farm shop, and if a painting of the Trent valley or the barn itself catches your eye, it can catch yours at home too.

  8. Homemade berry liqueur in glass bottles with blackberries and elderflowers
    Marion

    Creme De Mure & Elderflower

    Homemade liqueurs

Marion makes her liqueurs the old way, from blackberries and elderflowers gathered locally. They are small-batch, properly handmade, and appear on our shelves and in our drinks list when the hedgerow allows.

  9. Pam and James cutting a celebration cake surrounded by Sauce Shop bottles
    Pam & James

    Sauce Shop

    Handmade sauces

Pam and James bottle proper handmade sauces, from punchy chilli numbers to rich, slow-cooked ketchup. Their bottles line our shelves and their sauces end up on the plates in the bistro too. Once you have tried the real thing, the brown bottle stuff is finished.

  10. Butcher hanging dry-aged beef and pork in a farm shop display cabinet
    Harvey

    Harvey

    Butcher

Harvey has been butchering for over 30 years and his craft is the foundation of the barn. His counter supplies everything from everyday joints to dry-aged beef, and his expertise is behind every meat box we sell. If you want to know where your meat comes from, Harvey is your man.

Stocked with care.

Everything from our suppliers sits alongside our own produce in the farm shop, and appears on the menu in the bistro. Come and meet the makers at one of our events.
